The Side mounted spent grain port and Bottom spent grain port

The Side mounted spent grain port and Bottom spent grain port

Lautering is the important process for brewing, and lauter tun is the most complex vessel
in brewhouse system.
In the lautering process, the wort (the liquid containing the sugar extracted during mashing)
is separated from the grains.  This is done either in a lauter tun outfitted with a false bottom
or in a mash filter. Most separation processes have two stages:  first wort run-off, during
which the extract is separated in an undiluted state from the spent grains, and sparging,
in which extract which remains with the grains is rinsed off with hot water.
The lauter tun false bottom is designed to hold back the large bits of grist and hulls.
The bed of grist that settles on it is the actual filter.  Lauter tuns have provisions for rotating
rakes to cut into the bed of grist to maintain good flow. When the process is complete,
a plow can be dropped to drive the spent grain out of the vessel. There are Side mounted
spent grain port ,and Bottom spent grain port for optional.

The side mounted spent grain port apply to relative small capcity brewhouse , it is very
common. We adopt this design for most brewhouse lower than 2000L,but it does not excude
bottom spent grain port .
why it is not suitable for large lauter tun? The large lauter tun will be higher, come with raker
motor device at the bottom, it will be easy to make the spent grain on floor when plow to
drive the spent grain out of the vessel, and at the end of driving grain bed, it still need brewer
to remove the grain bed at the side grain port by manual rake, it will be difficult for brewer to
do it when the lauter tun very high.

The bottom spent grain port is available for large lauter tun, It will drive the grain bed easily
and clean, and we could close the bottom port by gate valve when grain trolley is full, even
the motor still running; we still include side grain port at the same time, because we need to
take the false bottom out of the vessel When we clean it.
