What should be noted when using plate heat exchangers?
We all know that, heat exchangers are typicaly used to quickly lower the temperature of wort after boil. The plate heat exchangers are made up of corrugated plates with multiple channels for liquid to flow through. A hot liquid flows along one side of the plate and cold liquid flows along the other side.
So the questions is : What should be noted when using plate heat exchangers?
Before cooling, the side which the wort flows along should be sterilized by hot water above 80 degrees Celsius. And it is necessary to keep the hot water flows along more than 30mins.
2. Temperature
Pay attention to the temperature of the wort outlet and control it within the specified range of the process. The error is less than 0.5 degrees Celsius.
3. Time
Generally speaking, the time should be controlled within 60mins. It is better for wort. A longer time will have an impact on the quality of the wort.
4. Cleaning
The plate should be cleaned regularly, or the efficiency will be lower.
5. Pressure
The maximum working pressure of heat exchangers is 1 bar, pay attention on it.
