Why we use vacuum pressure relief valve on fermentation tank?

Why we use vacuum pressure relief valve on fermentation tank?

As experienced brewers, we need to pay more attention to tank pressure to avoid vacuum and over pressure during operation.
Our vacuum pressure relief valve have 2 bar, 1.5 bar and 1 bar type.
Take 2 bar for example. Vacuum pressure relief valve will relief pressure when pressure reaching 2 bar, vacuum pressure relief valve will also let air in when cleaning tank to avoid vacuum.

So we need to know what will cause vacuum or negative pressure:
1. Steam sterilization will cause vacuum
1M3 steam equals 560g while 1M3 water equals 1t at atmosphere pressure. So you can image how it will happen after steam becomes water.
The steam will be compressed quickly after condensation. While the compress will cause negative pressure.

2. If you discharge beer very fast and have a small air amount, a negative will happen.

3. Clean tanks with lye water, Lye will react with CO2 in tanks, CO2 in tank will reduce, then vacuum or negative pressure will happens
The suggested hot lye liquor temperature is below 40 Celsius.

4. Use cold water to clean tank after hot lye liquor cleaning

Some customer ask if he needs a vacuum valve when he has spunding valve.
Yes, vacuum pressure relief valve is needed to add to pretect from vacuum and negative pressure.
