Microbrewery malt milling solution

Milling is the physical crushing of malt kernels into smaller particles in preparation for mashing and lautering in beer brewing process. The various milling processes need to be manipulated carefully to find a balance between a grind that is too fine and one that is too coarse. See lautering and mashing. The finer the grind, the greater will be the amount of sugary wort that can be extracted from a given amount of grist. See wort. In theory at least, finely ground malt flour yields by far the most economical extraction in the brewhouse. In microbrewery, we usually use double roller miller,for middle scale brewery, we chose hammer miller ,and mash filter to work together.

A hammer mill is a mill whose purpose is to shred or crush aggregate material into smaller pieces by the repeated blows of little hammers.

The basic principle is straightforward. A hammer mill is essentially a steel drum containing a vertical or horizontal rotating shaft or drum on which hammers are mounted. The hammers are free to swing on the ends of the cross, or fixed to the central rotor. The rotor is spun at a high speed inside the drum while material is fed into a feed hopper. The material is impacted by the hammer bars and is thereby shredded and expelled through screens in the drum of a selected size.
