Some tips on wort lauter

Please allow me to share something about wort lauter with you.
As we all know, there are four basic steps in brewing beer, including mashing, lauter, boiling and whirlpool. Separating soluble extracts from mash and ensuring the tasting and clarity of wort is main aim during the stage of wort lauter.
 
Generally, most of breweries tend to install a filter plate in the bottom of interior lauter tank to achieve wort lauter.
 
Some details are as follows:
 
_The distance between filter plate and false bottom keeps 20 mm-40 mm
_Filter plate with 0.7mm gap on top and 1.5mm bottom
_Opening rate keeps 10%-30%

 
In addition, the factor that influenced lauter speed will be affected by the thickness of spent grain. If the thickness keeps too thick, wort will not be lauter well. And if the thickness is too thin, the the wort clarity may be difficult to achieve a reasonable effect.
 
We hold that, the thickness of spent grain had better keep around 30 cm to 40 cm, which is a reasonable thickness to wort lauter.
 
What’s more, before the first wort filtration is completed, sparging spent grain bed is also necessary step.
