After beer fermentation stage, it usually need to have filtration process to keep beer shelf time. There are six main ways of beer filtration, namely cotton cake filtration, diatomite filtration, paperboard filtration, double flow filtration, cross flow filtration and aseptic filtration.
The characteristics of various filtration methods are introduced as follows.
① The cotton cake filter is an old-fashioned filtering equipment. The filter cotton of the cotton cake filter contains asbestos, which has strong adsorption capacity and can filter out beer with high stability. The liquor is clear and transparent. But this kind of filtering method is labor-intensive, difficult to realize automation, low production efficiency, and asbestos is harmful to human body, so the cotton cake filter has been eliminated.
② There are many kinds of diatomite filters, mainly plate and frame type, candle type and horizontal disc type.
This kind of filter has been used for a long time. Because of its stable operation and its filtration capacity can be improved by adding components, it is still adopted by most manufacturers.
③ The difference between the paperboard filter and the plate frame diatomite filter is that it is only composed of filter plates, and there is a filter board suspended between the filter plates. But because the price of paperboard is much more expensive than diatomite, diatomite filter is commonly used in beer production for coarse filtration, and paperboard filter is mainly used for fine filtration.
④ Double flow filtration technology is a new type of diatomite filter based on the traditional candle diatomite filter. The technical features of the double flow filtration system are that the upper end plate of the original candle diatomite filter is replaced by the pipe grid with marks, the filter elements are concentrated through the pipe, the filtrate is discharged directly, the flow rate in the filter is uniform, the uniformity of the precoating is ensured, and the filtration capacity can be increased by 10%.
⑤ Crossflow filtration is mainly used to replace diatomite filter. In crossflow filtration, the filtered beer moves in the direction parallel to the membrane surface, and the membrane is continuously washed. Only a small amount of sediment remains on the membrane, so as to achieve the purpose of intercepting particles and clarifying liquor. This kind of filtration method is called crossflow filtration. The technical feature of cross flow filtration is that the filtration of beer is no longer dependent on filter aids, and the filtration of beer can be completed at one time without recycling beer from yeast, and the filtered beer can reach the sterile state without pasteurization.
⑥ Aseptic filtration is mainly used for filtration of draft beer. There are two kinds of aseptic filtration system, namely membrane filtration and deep bed multi-level filtration. The technical feature of membrane filtration is to filter with the help of specially fine micropores. According to the different filter elements in the filter, it can be divided into three types: component filtration, deep candle filtration and large area filtration wick. The biggest advantage of the modular filter is that it is easy to operate;The biggest advantage of the deep bed multi-level filtration system is that the filter pad is deep filtration, and the surface is not easy to block. It can be installed in front of the filling line instead of the buffer tank. CO2 can pass through the system completely. The oxygen inhalation volume is very low, and the filter pad can be recycled alkaline. Once the filter pad is discarded, there is no need to worry about environmental protection.
