How to pump reasonably during lautering?
Recently some young brewers have problems during lautering, so here we would like to share some tips about this process:
1. Barley malt
There are 20mm between the rake and false bottom, so it is not easy to lossen the bottom grain bed by rake.
So certain ratio coarse grained Barley malt particle will be used during mashing, a larger filtering gap will be formed and will not be block easily when pumping.
And normally the coarse grained Barley malt particle just need to be spread 20mm on the false bottom.
2. Keep checking the wort sight glass during lautering
Please keep checking the wort sight glass during lautering process, please stop pump if the wort do not move in sight glass.
As the grain bed is too tight to filter when the wort do not move in sight glass.
If you keep pumping, the negative pressure will produce to cause the false bottom collapse.
3. upgrade the configuration
Wort grant is an good choice of buffering the lautering process for young brewers.
There are three types, stainless steel wort grant with Negele level sensor, stainless steel wort grant with float ball, glass wort grant.
