What can we do if lautering is difficult to move?
Luatering process is variational, there are many factors that influence the lautering, like grain quality, mashing method, grain milling degree. So we have to adjust the operation according to spent grains resistance. There are two methods to adjust the lautering process:
1. Top hot water method
Close wort outlet and pump 78 Celsius hot water from bottom of wort outlet. Let hot water over flow 10-15cm of the grain bed to loose grain bed.
Open the inlet valve and start backflow, pump wort to boiling tank after wort clear.
2. Braised grain bed method
Close wort outlet, drop the rake to bottom and mixing with water. Stop agitating when the water overflow grain bed 10-15cm. Stop 3-5min and open valve to backflow. Pump wort to boiling tank after wort clear.
