Step-by-Step Cleaning Process:
1. Safety First:Wear personal protective equipment to protect yourself from caustic chemicals and hot water.
2. Drain and Rinse: Drain any remaining beer from the tank. Rinse the tank with hot water (60-70°C) to remove any loose debris and residual beer.
3. Remove Parts: If possible, remove any parts like gaskets, valves, and fittings. Clean these parts separately.
4. Caustic Cleaning: Prepare a caustic cleaning solution according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Fill the tank with the caustic solution or use a CIP system to circulate the solution through the tank.
Allow the solution to circulate for 20-30 minutes, ensuring it reaches all areas of the tank. If cleaning manually, use a soft brush or non-abrasive scrubber to scrub the interior surfaces.
5. Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the tank with hot water to remove all traces of the caustic cleaner.
6. Acid Rinse (Optional but Recommended): Prepare an acid rinse solution (e.g., a diluted phosphoric acid solution). Circulate or soak the tank with the acid solution for 10-15 minutes.
This step helps to neutralize any remaining caustic cleaner and remove mineral deposits.

7. Final Rinse:Perform a final rinse with hot water to remove any residual acid solution.
8. Sanitizing: Prepare a sanitizer solution according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Circulate the sanitizer through the tank or fill the tank with the solution. Ensure that all surfaces are in contact with the sanitizer for the recommended contact time. Drain the sanitizer solution, allowing any excess to air dry if using a no-rinse sanitizer like Star San.
9. Reassemble: Reassemble any parts that were removed earlier, ensuring they are also cleaned and sanitized.
10. Final Inspection: Inspect the tank to ensure it is clean and free of any residues.Check all seals and fittings for integrity and proper assembly.
