Flow Meter Used in Microbrewery Equipment

As time goes on, the brewers have more request on the precise brewing. Now almost all microbreweries need the ability to measure the liquid flow of their product in a manner that is sanitary. This requires the use of a sanitary-style flow meter that has no cracks on the surface in which liquid can pass through and thus allow bacteria to generate.In addition, flow measurements need to be highly accurate to allow the microbrewery to precisely measure volume in production and packaging processes. For a whole microbrewery equipment or a small brewery equipment, do you know where will we use the flow meter?
 
The first one is before water inlet for the Mash Tun and also the Sparging water for the Lauter tun.
The next one is at the wort outlet after the heat exchanger. We can know how much wort has gone into the fermentation tanks.
Sure many tanks have the sight glass level to help to know the quantity of beer brewing water or wort quantity. But flow meter in a brewery makes it more exactly.

Flow measurement is the quantification of bulk fluid movement. Flow can be measured in a variety of ways. Positive-displacement flow meters accumulate a fixed volume of fluid and then count the number of times the volume is filled to measure flow. Other flow measurement methods rely on forces produced by the flowing stream as it overcomes a known constriction, to indirectly calculate flow. Flow may be measured by measuring the velocity of fluid over a known area.
 
Magnetic flow meters
Magnetic flow meters, often called "mag meter"s or "electromag"s, use amagnetic field applied to the metering tube, which results in a potential difference proportional to the flow velocity perpendicular to the fluxlines. The potential difference is sensed by electrodes aligned perpendicular to the flow and the applied magnetic field. The physical principle at work is Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. The magnetic flow meter requires a conducting fluid and a nonconducting pipe liner. The electrodes must not corrode in contact with the process fluid; some magnetic flowmeters have auxiliary transducers installed to clean the electrodes in place. The applied magnetic field is pulsed, which allows the flow meter to cancel out the effect of stray voltage in the piping system.
 
The electromagnetic type needs to have ion in the water. Wort works fine for this type.
But so need to confirm will you use tap water or pure water for mashing water?
Turbine flow meter will be used for pure water after RO water treatment.

Turbine type flow meter is a Volume flow meter. Turbine flow meters use the mechanical energy of the liquid or gas to rotate a rotor in the flow stream. The rotational speed of the rotor is proportional to the velocity of the fluid. In multiple industries, Turbine meters are used to measure the velocity of a variety of liquids, gases and vapors.
So in a general a magnetic flow meter is good to use at both mashing water and wort when there is ions in the brewing water. If you use the water treatment in your beer brewing equipment, then it is good to choose Turbine flow meter.
