Two solutions of glycol cooling unit for wort cooling in brewery equipment

Two solutions of glycol cooling unit for wort cooling in brewery equipment
As we know, before wort fermentation, we need cool hot wort to reach requested fermentation temperature. There are two solutions of cooling hot wort for optional. The one is brewery with Single-stage plate heat exchanger, glycol water tank and cold liquor tank. The another one is brewery with double-stage plate heat exchanger and glycol water tank. Which types of solutions is more suitable for my brewery equipment? Please keep watching.

*Brewery with single-stage plate heat exchanger, glycol water tank and cold liquor tank.

Single-stage plate heat exchanger only use one cooling medium[cold water] during wort cooling. Firstly, the glycol water will cool cold water in cold water tank, and the cold water will be cooled to requested temperature to cool hot wort. Then, hot wort will be cooled to fermentation temperature you need. At the same time, recycled hot water could be heated up to 75℃-80℃ and could be used for sparging, cleaning or next brewing.
Advantage:
1. After wort cooling, the temperature of recycled hot water will be about 75℃-80℃, which will save your costs of heating brewing water. Heating utilization rate is better.
2. Singe-stage wort cooling just use one cooling medium[cold water] without glycol water. Easy to operate and control.
3. Compared with double-stage wort cooling, the average temperature difference is smaller in single-stage wort cooling, and the load of the refrigerator is relatively light.
4. Recycled hot water could be used for sparging or cleaning
Disadvantage:
It will need more budget and larger brewery space.
*Brewery with double-stage plate heat exchanger and glycol water tank

Double-stage plate heat exchanger use two cooling medium[city water and glycol water] during wort cooling. Firstly, city water[less than 20℃] will cool hot wort to 40℃-50℃. Then, by -3℃~-4℃ glycol water, cooling wort to requested fermentation temperature. Heated city water will be about 40℃-50℃. Compared with single-stage wort cooling, the recycled heated water may not be as effective.
Advantage:
1. It saves your budget and brewery space
Disadvantage:
1. Temperature of recycled city water is about 40℃-50℃. If you expect to use it for sparging, it need heat to requested temperature again.
2. Compared with single-stage wort cooling, heating utilization rate is poor.
3. During wort cooling, there is a large temperature change.
